TOOLS THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED
While talking to people with computer
problems or fixing computers with "issues" I discovered that many problems could
have been completely prevented if the user(s) had the proper software installed.
Here's the list of the tools that might save your computer's life, and will surely save
you from a lot of hassles:
| Anti-Virus | Ad/Spyware | Firewalls |
| Anti-Virus: It doesn't matter whether your
computer is connected to the internet or not, but you MUST absolutely have some anti-virus
software installed. I really do not feel sorry for people whose computers got
damaged and they never had any anti-virus software installed. Come on now, not
running any anti-virus is like walking out to pick up the newspaper in the morning with
only your undies on ... A BAD IDEA!!!!! Virus writers are making their evil programs
very complicated nowdays, you don't even have to open an infected attachment to get
infected!!! Here's my most recommended anti virus software: |
Trend Micro PC-Cillin- You can download a free
30-day trial of the software. I absolutely love it. There's only one very
annoying thing about this software. In an attempt to try to protect your PC from
hackers, the software has also integrated a firewall into it. However, because the PC Cillin
firewall is not as configurable as ZoneAlarm, I advise you to disable it in the settings
and instead download Zone Alarm (see Firwalls section).
-------------------------------------------------------
Norton Anti Virus - I never
used it, but since it's so popular it can't be that bad, and any protection is better than
none.
-------------------------------------------------------
Trend Micro House Call -
Free on-line version of PC Cillin. For those of you who can't afford an anti-virus program
or if you feel the current program is not finding a virus on your system this is a good
temporary solution. It does NOT replace a true anti-virus software since it does not offer
real-time protection.
-------------------------------------------------------
AVG -
Free anti virus software. I have not used it, but know many who have, and they swear by it.

damage that may result due to the use of the above software or recommendations.
